Experiencing troublesome heartburn
Many different types of complementary therapies have been tried for heartburn, but none has been proven in clinical trials to be effective. This does not necessarily mean you will get no relief if you try them. However, they may not be the most appropriate treatment for your condition. If you experience regular or troublesome heartburn, you should see a doctor for a thorough assessment, diagnosis and to discuss treatment options.

Herbal remedies or supplements
No herbal remedies or supplements have been proven to effectively relieve the symptoms of heartburn, although many, such as ginger or apple cider vinegar, have been used for centuries. If you are planning on taking any of these, check with your doctor first, as they may interfere with other medicines you are taking, or affect other aspects of your health.

Relaxation techniques
Stress can worsen heartburn, so relieving your stress levels may improve your symptoms. Regardless of the effect on your heartburn, relaxation techniques such as meditation, massage, Tai Chi or yoga can have beneficial effects on your mood and general
well-being.
